Hyderabad-based astronomer studies rare object that may be a ‘black hole star’
- Hyderabad-born astronomer Rohan P Naidu led a JWST study of an unusual early-universe object called MoM-BH*-1.
- The object existed roughly 660 million years after the Big Bang and may be a “black hole star” — a black hole surrounded by extremely dense gas.
- The finding could help explain how some black holes grew rapidly and shed light on JWST’s mysterious “Little Red Dots”.
- Naidu left engineering at 18, later earned a PhD in astronomy from Harvard, and has worked on some of the earliest galaxies observed.
