India bars sugarcane-based ethanol, orders zero sugar diversion
- India’s state-run oil firms have barred ethanol made from sugarcane juice and syrup from their latest tender.
- The government has directed that sugar diversion for ethanol be cut to zero in the 2026-27 supply year.
- The tender, issued on 16 October, seeks about 11 billion litres of ethanol for blending in petrol.
- Bids are allowed for ethanol from maize, broken rice and C-heavy molasses instead.
