iPhone 18 Pro gets ‘Reference Image’ to check photo authenticity
- Apple's new Reference Image feature lets iPhone 18 Pro users prove their camera photos weren't altered by AI tools.
- The camera signs sensor data at the moment of capture, and Private Cloud Compute then builds an unalterable image.
- Users can compare the signed "digital negative" against any edited photo right inside the iPhone's own Photos app.
- Reference Image launches September 18 in over 65 countries, but it will skip the EU and China due to regulations.
