John Ternus steps up as Apple CEO, aiming to boost AI capabilities
- John Ternus takes over as Apple's chief executive today, after 25 years at the company and 15 of Tim Cook's leadership.
- He built his career in hardware, designing Macs, then running iPads, AirPods, iPhones and eventually all engineering.
- That leaves gaps in finance, sales, legal and government relations, so he will lean on the executives around him.
- Cook stays on as executive chairman, handling policymakers, Trump and China — none of which Ternus has had to do before.
