Kolkata's Janmashtami celebration faces change as Hindus take over from Muslim organisers
- A 58-year-old Janmashtami celebration in Kolkata’s Mominpore is changing, with only Hindus managing it this year.
- The celebration was started nearly six decades ago by Muslim social worker Md Kashim and later revived by Muslim youths.
- Muslims had made up about half of the 20-member organising committee and helped run the festival for years.
- This year, all Muslim members have been removed from the committee, with BJP leader Rakesh Singh defending the Hindu-only setup.
