Maharashtra declares 74% of talukas drought-affected as rainfall deficit grows
- Maharashtra has declared 265 of its 358 talukas drought-affected, covering nearly 74% of the state.
- From June 1 to September 18, the state received 755.9 mm rain against 932.3 mm normal, an 18.8% deficit.
- Marathwada was among the worst hit, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division recording a 30.8% short rainfall.
- The weak monsoon has damaged soybean, cotton, maize and pulses, while some districts also face livestock and drinking-water stress.
