Maratha quota protest leader sets September 12 deadline for Maharashtra government
- Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has set September 12 as the deadline for the Maharashtra government to act on his demands, warning of a fresh escalation if it fails to do so.
- Jarange is demanding Kunbi certificates for eligible Marathas based on 58 lakh historical records, which would allow them to access benefits available under the OBC category.
- He also wants caste certificate verification committees suspended, arguing that verification should not be required for people whose names are supported by the historical records.
- Maharashtra CM Fadnavis has reached out to Jarange, saying the government is willing to discuss demands that are constitutionally valid.
