Mumbai auto drivers are learning Marathi with paper slips on the dashboard
- Drivers are keeping handwritten Hindi-to-Marathi phrase lists in their autos to pick up everyday words on the job.
- Slips include useful basics like "hoy, basa" yes, please sit, "kuthey jaychay?" where to? and directions.
- The effort follows amended Motor Vehicles Rules requiring commercial drivers to have working knowledge of Marathi.
- RTO squads checked 1,430 drivers in Mumbai; 422 got show-cause notices and a month to improve.
