Navi Pillay, the South African jurist of Indian descent, wins the Nobel Peace Prize

Navi Pillay has won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, for her efforts to promote peace and international law.
The committee cited her exceptional courage and integrity in the legal field.
The South African jurist is descended from Tamil indentured labourers taken to Natal under British rule.
She was UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and a judge at the International Criminal Court.
