Nepal flood warning came minutes before deadly waters swept through
- Nepal's Flood Forecasting Division learned around 9 am on August 26 that a flood had entered from the Tibetan side.
- Between 9:15 am and 9:16 am, some 6,00,000 early-warning SMS messages went out to Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan.
- A customs officer who saw the flood coming shouted, “Run!” — about 10 seconds later, floodwaters swept away the buildings around him.
- Survivors say those who ran uphill immediately lived; those who hesitated or ran the wrong way were swept away or went missing.
