- NHAI has ordered special quality checks on 17 highway projects across nine states, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
- The projects were awarded at bids over 15% below estimates, raising concerns over construction quality and standards.
- Teams led by experienced engineers will check materials, workmanship, construction methods and safety standards at the sites.
- The first inspections will be completed by December 2026, followed by another round six months later.
