No Aadhaar for welfare payments? Minister proposes voter ID-based verification

Union Minister Lalan Singh said on 30 October that Aadhaar would no longer be the basis for payments.
Singh said biometric authentication and the voter ID’s EPIC number would replace it, with no timeline.
He argued Aadhaar was inadequate because enrolment centres were everywhere and cards took minutes.
Singh did not say which schemes would adopt the system, or how it would be implemented.
