PepsiCo opens its first Assam factory, three years after announcing the Rs 778 crore plant
- PepsiCo has opened its first food manufacturing plant in Assam, at Nalbari, built at a cost of Rs 778 crore.
- It is the company's first investment anywhere in the North East, spread across 44.2 acres.
- The plant will make Lay's, and PepsiCo aims to source 50,000 tonnes of potatoes a year from Assam farmers.
- It targets at least 75 per cent women in its workforce, with about 500 jobs created directly and indirectly.
