Sugar gets costlier: Prices jump ₹13 in a year to ₹59.50 per kg
- Sugar retail prices have risen to Rs 59.50 a kg, up about Rs 13 from a year ago, ministry data shows.
- Retail and wholesale prices have both gone up by more than Rs 4 a kg in the past month.
- Prices are high because 2025-26 output fell short, with festive demand and hoarding adding pressure.
- The government has imposed stock limits, allowed imports and brought the crushing season forward.
