Supreme Court makes insurance mandatory for all train tickets from October 27

SC has ordered Indian Railways to provide mandatory insurance for tickets purchased over the counter.
• This directive follows a petition regarding the June 2023 Odisha train accident, which raised concerns about safety measures.
Court criticised the Ministry of Railways for its safety measures & demanded accountability from the Railway Board.
Railways must submit progress reports on safety improvements and budget allocations to the court within two months.
