Tamil Nadu halts physical issuance of driving licences and registration certificates
- Tamil Nadu has stopped issuing physical driving licences and vehicle Registration Certificates RCs from September 12.
- Applicants can download digitally signed DLs and RCs for free on the same day they pass their driving test or register a vehicle.
- The digital documents carry a QR code for verification and will be accepted by traffic police, Regional Transport Offices RTOs and other authorities.
- The move aims to cut delays and curb alleged malpractice linked to printing and distributing physical smart cards; e-Seva centres will offer printouts from September 15.
