Tamil Nadu’s new wedding scheme promises brides gold and silk sarees
- Tamil Nadu has rolled out the ‘Annan Seer’ scheme, offering eligible brides an 8-gram, 22-carat gold coin and a silk saree.
- The scheme covers brides from families with an annual income of up to ₹2.5 lakh whose marriage takes place in Tamil Nadu.
- The state has allocated ₹812 crore for the scheme in the 2026-27 financial year.
- The initiative draws on the Tamil tradition of an elder brother giving ‘seer’ wedding gifts to his sister as a gesture of support.
