TVK wins both Tamil Nadu bypolls, raising Assembly strength to 109

The ruling TVK party won both Assembly bypolls in Tamil Nadu, at Madurantakam and Dharapuram, in a blow to the AIADMK.
The seats fell vacant after two AIADMK MLAs resigned and joined the TVK, and both were fielded again.
The wins take the party’s strength from 107 to 109 in the 234-member House, still nine short of a majority.
DMK chief MK Stalin called it an interim victory, saying the opposition votes together still outnumbered the TVK.
