UN approves Africa-accurate world map; US is only country to vote no
- The UN General Assembly approves a resolution supporting a world map that more accurately shows Africa’s true size.
- The move seeks to shift from the widely used Mercator projection, which distorts the size of regions near the poles.
- The Equal Earth projection is among the alternatives promoted for a more proportionate representation of continents.
- The non-binding resolution received 164 votes in favour, with six abstentions and the US voting against it.
