UPI payments above ₹2,000 may attract fees for merchants after Diwali

The NPCI will apply a merchant discount rate to UPI transactions above Rs 2,000.
The UPI and Services Steering Committee decided to implement the Merchant Discount Rate after the festive season.
Reports said a proposal to delay the rollout to 1 January was under consideration.
The economic think tank GTRI recommended that the government withdraw proposed UPI charges to keep digital payments free.
