US to reopen Cold War-era base in Greenland under new security agreement with Denmark
- The US plans to reopen a former Cold War-era military base in southern Greenland and establish a presence at an eastern outpost.
- The sites are Narsarsuaq, once home to the US Bluie West One base, and Mestersvig, used by Denmark’s Sirius Dog Sled Patrol.
- The move is expected under a new US-Denmark-Greenland security deal to be signed at the UN General Assembly in New York.
- The move would expand the US military footprint in Greenland, which currently has one US base with about 150 personnel.
