A pig kidney kept a man off dialysis for a record nine months
- In January 2025 Tim Andrews became the fourth living American to receive a pig kidney.
- The organ came from a Yucatan miniature pig with 69 genetic modifications, and no pig viruses were detected.
- Its blood vessels were damaged after about six months, and surgeons removed it, putting him back on dialysis.
- He then received a human kidney in January, making him the first to cross that bridge, as he puts it.
