Amit Shah says UCC to be introduced in all NDA-ruled states before 2029
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Uniform Civil Code UCC will be introduced in all 21 NDA-ruled states before 2029.
- Four BJP-ruled states have passed UCC legislation so far, with Uttarakhand already implementing it from January 2025.
- Gujarat, Assam and Madhya Pradesh have passed UCC laws but are awaiting presidential assent and notification.
- Shah said the Centre is also discussing a nationwide National Register of Citizens NRC with allies, including its 1951 baseline in Manipur.
