Birth and death registration law set to take effect nationwide from October 1
- India’s amended birth and death registration law will take effect on October 1, the Registrar General said.
- Births or deaths registered over two years late will now need approval from a court.
- Cases delayed by one to two years need approval from a District Magistrate, SDM or executive magistrate.
- The 1969 law, last amended in 2023, requires registration to issue official birth and death certificates.
