Census 2027 disability count faces concerns over missing categories
- Disability groups on Wednesday said Census 2027 proposes only nine categories despite 21 disabilities recognised under Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
- Autism, dwarfism and leprosy-cured persons were not distinctly captured in the census disability forms.
- The Registrar General said nine categories cover multiple disabilities with up to three recordable per person.
- Groups warned that this could leave people with disabilities out of official data, affecting government policies and funding.
