EU proposes banning under-13s from social media under new child safety rules
- European Commission proposed banning social media accounts for children under 13 under its new EU Kids Act.
- Children aged 13-14 could use limited accounts under parental control, while independent accounts would be allowed from 15.
- The proposal would also require platforms to remove infinite scroll, addictive features and profiling-based recommendation feeds for minors.
- Platforms could face fines of up to 6% of global annual revenue for violations, but the proposal still needs approval from EU governments and Parliament.
