Government wants your kitchen to switch from cylinders to pipes
- PNG is cooking gas delivered straight to your kitchen through underground pipes. You pay by meter, like electricity, with no cylinder to book or store.
- The scheme starts September 1, 2026. India has about 1.74 crore PNG connections against 33 crore LPG customers. India imports about 60 percent of its LPG, mostly from the Middle East.
- The war has disrupted those shipments and raised costs. The government wants to cut import bills and subsidy spending by shifting homes to piped gas.
