Gujarat sanctions AI system to protect Gir's lions from trains
- An AI-based intrusion-detection system to monitor lion movement has been sanctioned for the railway section within Gujarat's Gir National Park.
- The system covers 115 km in the Damnagar-Pipavav section of the Bhavnagar Division of Western Railway, inside Gir's protected area.
- It's designed to alert loco pilots, station masters and the control room about lion movement near tracks for timely preventive action.
- Gir is the only place in the world where Asiatic lions live in the wild, and trains have killed several over the years.
