India and ADB sign $230 million loan to fix Chennai's ageing water and sanitation infrastructure
- India and the Asian Development Bank signed a $230 million loan on August 21 to modernise Chennai's water and sanitation infrastructure.
- The project builds 170 km of new pipes and upgrades 45 pumping stations — benefiting 4.5 million Greater Chennai residents.
- Chennai becomes the first Indian city to get a ring-main water system — a closed loop that maintains equal water pressure citywide.
- ADB will also introduce real-time digital monitoring and technology to detect sewer blockages.
