India extends passport validity for children under 15 to 5 years or until 18
- The Ministry of External Affairs notified new passport rules on 15 September, extending validity for children under 15.
- Under the amended rule, a 36-page passport for such children will now be valid for five years or until age 18.
- The rules took effect immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette on 15 September.
- Updated passport fees, effective from 1 July, raised the cost of a 36-page adult passport to Rs 2,500.
