India renews 2030 goal to eliminate Hepatitis B and C
- India reaffirmed its goal of eliminating Hepatitis B and C as public health threats by 2030 at a UNGA side event in New York.
- Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava highlighted India’s efforts on prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment.
- Over 225 million people have been screened for hepatitis in India, while more than 6.52 lakh patients received free treatment.
- Hepatitis B and C can cause chronic liver disease, cirrhosis and liver cancer if left untreated.
