India test-fires first fully indigenous AK-203 rifle named Sher at Amethi facility
- India recently test-fired the first AK-203 rifle made entirely from Indian components at the Korwa facility in Amethi.
- The rifle, named Sher, was made by Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited, a joint venture set up in 2019.
- IRRPL chief Maj Gen SK Sharma said fully indigenised prototypes will be handed to the Army for trials in September.
- The AK-203 fires 700 rounds per minute with a range of 800 metres and will replace the Army's ageing INSAS rifles.
