India to acquire Javelin anti-tank weapon system from the US to enhance defence
- US Ambassador Sergio Gor posted on X on Friday that India plans to buy the Javelin anti-tank system.
- The State Department had already approved a $93 million sale in November, for up to 100 Javelins and 216 artillery shells.
- The Javelin is shoulder-fired and locks onto its target before launch, allowing the operator to take cover immediately.
- Gor says it opens the door to co-production, with the two countries having signed a defence framework last year.
