India’s first homegrown AK-203 ‘Sher’ clears test
- India has test-fired its first fully indigenous AK-203 ‘Sher’ at the Indo-Russian Rifles facility in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
- The rifle uses 7.62×39 mm ammunition, fires around 700 rounds a minute and has a range of up to 800 metres.
- Its parts and raw materials are sourced in India, supporting Aatmanirbhar Bharat and reducing import dependence.
- Army trials are planned for September 2026, with about six lakh rifles expected to replace older INSASIndian Small Arms System rifles.
