India’s first industrial biopolymer plant to open in UP this October
- India’s first large-scale biopolymer plant is being built in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, at a cost of ₹3,080 crore.
- The plant will convert locally grown sugarcane into Polylactic Acid PLA bioplastic on a single manufacturing campus.
- It is expected to become operational in October 2026 and will use Zero Liquid Discharge ZLD technology to avoid harmful liquid waste.
- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone on 22 February 2025 at Balrampur Chini Mills’ Kumbhi unit.
