India’s H1N1 cases rise, but ICMR says the seasonal virus poses no major alarm
- H1N1 makes up nearly 98% of Influenza A cases currently being reported in India, ICMR chief Rajiv Bahl said.
- Bahl said the rising cases are linked to the seasonal H1N1 virus, not a new or more dangerous strain.
- Severe cases remain low, with most infections being mild and not requiring hospitalisation, according to the ICMR chief.
- ICMR says there is no need for panic, as the circulating H1N1 strain has been present since 2025 and matches vaccine strains.
