Italian activist and politician Emma Bonino dies at 78
- Emma Bonino, who led campaigns that legalised abortion and divorce in Italy in the 1970s, has died at 78.
- Born in 1948, she co-founded a pre-legalisation abortion information centre after her own illegal abortion at 26.
- She served as EU Commissioner from 1995, later becoming Italy's Foreign Minister and founding the party +Europa in 2017.
- Bonino was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015.
