Scientists name new Australian bug genus after Taylor Swift
- Scientists have named a new insect genus Swiftiephylus after Taylor Swift, with four species linked to her music.
- The four species are named after Taylor, Lover, Fearless and The Tortured Poets Department.
- UC Riverside doctoral student Sarah Schroeder, a lifelong Swiftie, co-described the 12 newly identified insect species.
- The insects’ pale bodies and red markings reminded Schroeder of Swift’s blonde hair and red lipstick, inspiring the tribute.
