Karnataka plans Rs 5,000 fine for one-way driving and stricter traffic rules in Bengaluru
- Karnataka is considering fines of up to ₹5,000 for repeat offences such as wrong-side driving, illegal parking, signal jumping and dangerous riding.
- First-time offenders would pay lower fines, with penalties increasing progressively for repeated violations.
- A proposed penalty-point system could track violations and suspend a driving licence once a driver crosses a set point limit.
- The government is also considering a ban on half-helmets, rules for low-speed electric two-wheelers and a carpooling policy to improve safety and reduce Bengaluru’s congestion.
