Low wages, job insecurity push workers to migrate, UNFPA report finds
- A UNFPA report found nearly 72% of migrant workers said moving for work improved their standard of living.
- Low wages, lack of jobs, irregular work, poverty and debt were key reasons workers moved to other states.
- The survey covered 1,824 migrant workers in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, mainly from northern and eastern states.
- Over 86% had no signed employment contract, while 73% faced problems accessing welfare and 69% struggled with healthcare.
