Most digital fraud victims got no money back, while 27% paid bribes to register complaints
- 72% of digital financial fraud victims recovered none of their lost money, a 2026 policing report found.
- 27% of victims whose police complaints were registered said they paid a bribe to get them registered.
- Victims who paid bribes were three times more likely to recover their full amount than those who did not.
- The report, by Common Cause and Lokniti-CSDS, surveyed 8,306 people across 16 states on cybercrime and responses from police and banks.
