Nagaland film ‘Angh’ qualifies for Oscars 2027 International Feature race
- Nagaland filmmaker Theja Rio’s debut feature ‘Angh’ has qualified for the International Feature Film category at the 2027 Oscars.
- The film is set in 1960s Nagaland and follows a former village chief and his son as their community faces cultural and religious change.
- ‘Angh’ is almost entirely in Konyak, a Naga language, and explores the conflict between traditional beliefs and the arrival of Christian missionaries.
- Rio won the Platform Prize at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival TIFF, which gives the film a direct pathway to Oscar consideration under a new Academy rule.
