NASA scientist spots new lunar crater formed by building-sized asteroid or comet
- NASA scientist Robert Wagner spotted an unusual bright spot on a lunar map, leading to a major discovery.
- The crater, named McGetchin, formed between 11 April and 22 May 2024 on the Moon's eastern edge.
- The impact, caused by a comet or asteroid the size of a building, created a crater 728 feet wide.
- Scientists said such large lunar impacts occur roughly once every century, reporting the find in Science Advances.
