Royal coachmaker Jim Frecklington dies aged 76 as final coach nears completion
- Jim Frecklington, regarded as the world’s last royal coachmaker, died at 76 before completing a carriage for King Charles III.
- The three-tonne horse-drawn carriage was his final and most ambitious project, built by hand using wood, metal, leather and gold.
- Frecklington spent more than 50 years making handcrafted carriages, including vehicles used in royal ceremonies.
- His team says the carriage is now 98% complete, with the unfinished project preserving his legacy in a fading craft.
