NASA’s Pandora mission begins studying exoplanet atmospheres for water and clouds
- NASA’s Pandora satellite has begun studying at least 20 exoplanets to look for clouds, hazes and water in their atmospheres.
- Pandora launched into low Earth orbit on January 11, 2026, as the first satellite under NASA’s Astrophysics Pioneers programme.
- During its one-year mission, Pandora will observe each target at least 10 times, with every observation lasting about 24 hours.
- The satellite will also study the stars hosting these planets to separate signals from the stars from those coming from planetary atmospheres.
