Pullela Gopichand mortgaged his house to build a badminton academy
- In 2007, Pullela Gopichand needed ₹3 crore to finish eight air-conditioned courts in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. His prize money was gone, and a donor's money had run out too.
- So Gopichand mortgaged his Jubilee Hills house to the bank.
- As a boy he wanted to play cricket, but the seats at his local sports club were taken. Tennis cost too much. Badminton had space.
- He went on to win the All England Championship, then built the academy that trained Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and more.
