Scientists develop concrete using biochar made from human waste to cut cement use
- Scientists led by Raghuvesh Tiwari of Manipal University Jaipur developed concrete using biochar from human waste.
- Sewage sludge was heated to 350-450°C to create biochar, replacing 5-15% of cement in concrete samples.
- At 10% replacement, flexural strength rose 42% and compressive strength rose 21% after 91 days of curing.
- At 15% replacement, results worsened, with more pores and cracks reducing the concrete's overall strength.
