Sinner withdraws from US Open as Alcaraz returns to defend title
- World number one Jannik Sinner confirmed on Friday he will miss the US Open because of a right knee injury.
- Sinner said practice in Monte Carlo showed he still needs more time to recover, calling the decision difficult.
- Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz confirmed his return from a wrist injury a day earlier for the final Grand Slam.
- Sinner, the 2024 US Open winner, lost last year's final to Alcaraz and won Wimbledon this year in his absence.
