Study: India's big five family businesses hold over 60% of all corporate income
- A World Bank Economic Review study, ‘Business Groups, Concentration and Market Power in India’, found India’s five largest family businesses — Reliance, Adani, Birla, OP Jindal and Tata — controlled over 60% of corporate income from 2001–2020, with Reliance and Adani alone accounting for at least 20%.
- The richest 1% control over 40% of India's total wealth — the bottom 50% receive just 15% of national income, down from 6.8% in 2019.
- The top five richest families saw their wealth grow 400% in six years — 1,688 individuals now hold wealth equal to nearly half of India's GDP.
