The German Shepherd who became a 9/11 rescue hero
- Apollo, a New York Police Department German Shepherd rescue dog, reached Ground Zero 15 minutes after the South Tower collapsed on 11 September 2001.
- Working with handler Pete Davis, Apollo searched through smoke, fire and rubble for survivors at the World Trade Center site.
- Apollo worked nearly 18 hours a day during rescue operations and survived falling flames and debris while searching.
- In 2002, Apollo received the Dickin Medal, for his bravery during the 9/11 rescue operations.
